How San Francisco’s school district is providing meals for families in need

With help from Google My Maps

1-minute read

Cecile Laberinto leads the dining staff at Willie Brown Jr. Middle School, but during the coronavirus pandemic she is helping run Grab & Go.

The Grab & Go program was created by the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) to give children meals despite coronavirus school closures.
Over half of SFUSD students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, so swift action was crucial.

Anne Moertel, another SFUSD worker, created a Google My Maps listing Grab & Go locations. Meals are not restricted to SFUSD students; all children are welcome.

Behind the scenes, Anne coordinates with meal-site team leaders like Cecile through Google Meet. Every week Grab & Go distributes over 150,000 meals.

“It’s just showing the kids that you actually care and they’re not alone. We’re here for them, and they can rely on us.” Cecile Laberinto
Thank you, Cecile, Anne, and everyone making sure San Francisco’s children have access to nutritious meals.
